Comedian Chris Tucker is on tap to host the 2013 BET Awards. Welcome back, sir!

Black Entertainment Television revealed Tuesday that Tucker, who is having a career resurgence after his role in last year’s Silver Linings Playbook after many years of being out of sight, will host the June 30 telecast.

This is the first time the 41-year-old funnyman has hosted the show, which was hosted by Samuel L. Jackson last year. Rememeber the Spike Lee performance a la Kanye and Hov?!

“I am honored to be asked to host this year’s BET Awards. I’m looking forward to be being part of a really great show,” Tucker said in a statement.

Stephen Hill, BET’s president of music programming and specials, said the network is excited to have Tucker on board.

“We cannot wait for Chris to set fire to the BET Awards stage with his unique brand of mayhem,” said Hill.

The BET Awards will take place at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre on June 30. As an extension of the awards show, the BET Awards will introduce its new festival “BET Experience at L.A. LIVE!” leading up to the Sunday show. So all eyes will be on him in this inaugural weekend for BET.
