Five people have been killed Florida after contracting a flesh-eating bacteria in the waters near Tampa Bay
It's called Vibrio vulnificus and it can be contracted through going going in warm, brackish seawater with open wounds and eating raw shellfish, particularly oysters
Common symptoms of contracting Vibrio vulnificus include diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, and skin infections
Bloodstream infections are fatal half the time
Governor Kathy Hochul has also warned NY residents about the bacterium since it claimed the lives of one New Yorker and two people in Connecticut over the summer
