DOVER, FL -- Spring is Florida's wildfire season and state forestry officials are warning about the dangers of fires getting out of control.
State Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson says arson and open fires in yards are the main causes of wildfires.
The state has deliberately set almost two million acres of woodlands on fire, to head off wildfires. Florida Forest Service Director Rick Dolan says a wet winter allowed for more prescribed burning, but a shift to La Niña this spring could bring drier conditions. He expects to see slightly drier than normal conditions.
Dolan tells Floridians to clear debris and yard waste and report arson to authorities.
