Florida's Republican governor is lashing out fellow members of his own party.

Ron DeSantis, in Pensacola today, urged residents to call their state representatives to get them to stop "HB-1321."

"In the Florida House of Representatives today, they are proposing a bill to undo this success."

The bill moving rapidly through the House would limit the governor's power regarding university presidents.

"Imagine that...they bring some Communist in to be the president of the university and I'm just supposed to sit there and twiddle my thumbs? That's not how I roll. I'm not going to let that happen to you. I'm not going to let that happen to this state."

It was filed by Republican State Rep. Michelle Salzman of Northwest Florida and co-sponsored by Democrat Anna Eskamani of Central Florida whom DeSantis describes as "the most flamboyantly left wing Democrat" in the state House. He believes House Speaker Daniel Perez coerced Salzman into filing the bill.

The governor made his comments while at Pensacola State College, where he announced that all 28 state colleges in Florida now have Hope Florida liaisons.

First Lady Casey DeSantis was also at the event to talk up her nonprofit which is under fire by some members of the Legislature, including Republican House leadership, over a $10-million donation. The money comes from a hefty settlement of a lawsuit between a healthcare giant and a Florida agency.

DeSantis says they're doing that to cover up their work with Democrats to undo much of what he's done for the state over the past six years.

The First Lady is said to be considering a run for governor next year.
