(Marco Island, FL) - Governor Ron DeSantis signed an agreement with the assistant secretary of the Army Friday to improve the infrastructure of the Florida Everglades.
DeSantis calls the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir agreement "huge" for improving the flow of Florida's Everglades which has been clogged from harmful discharges.
He says the EAA Reservoir will reconnect Lake Okeechobee to Florida Bay and alleviate blockages from nitrogen and phosphate contamination and will allow fresh water to flow south as nature intended.
"We've gone above and beyond on with these projects than any other state in the country has done. This is the largest environmental restoration in America and maybe even the world," stated DeSantis.
DeSantis says the state has spent $8 billion on Everglades restoration and water quality improvements during his time as governor.
The EAA reservoir is expected to be completed by 2029.
