It looks like GloRilla won't be making an R&B album after all.
In an interview Complex published on Wednesday, December 3, the Memphis rapper was asked about her post on X, in which she told fans she would be taking a new direction for an upcoming album. She said she would focus on making R&B music, but she was playing around.
"I was lying," Glo said around the 4-minute mark. "I was trolling because they be trying to talk about me being a R&B artist so I was like 'Ok since you talking about it, I will be doing a whole R&B album."
GloRilla does have some R&B features on her debut album Glorious. She recruited esteemed singers like Muni Long, Fridayy, Kirk Franklin and Maverick City Music to jump on the album. She even sampled Keyshia Cole's "Love" on her recent single "Typa." While she won't embrace her R&B skills anytime soon, GloRilla does plan to do something completely different for her next project. During her recent X Spaces conversation, Glo revealed that she plans to move on to the next era of her music career.
"I will be stepping out of that era," she said. "[I’m] stepping into a new era. I can't tell y'all when it’s gonna be. But I'm excited for it and I hope y’all like it […] I'm in the studio. I’m always working."
GloRilla is about to wrap up yet another stellar year. She was nominated three times ahead of the 68th Grammy Awards for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song. iHeartRadio also named the most-streamed hip-hop artist of the year alongside Kendrick Lamar, Future, Drake and Sexyy Red.
