FLORIDA - Aldi is growing its footprint in South Florida with several new stores opening this spring, many of which are replacing former Winn-Dixie locations.
The move is part of the company’s broader strategy following its 2023 acquisition of Southeastern Grocers, which included the Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket brands.
In May, Aldi will open new stores in Apollo Beach (252 Harbor Village Lane) and Avon Park (802 U.S. Highway 27 South), both converted from former Winn-Dixie sites.
Additional South Florida locations listed as “coming soon” include Boynton Beach (Cobblestone Commons, 8855 Boynton Beach Blvd) and Jensen Beach (Palm Breeze Plaza, 1105 NE Jensen Beach Blvd).
These openings are part of Aldi’s aggressive expansion plan to convert 220 former Winn-Dixie and Harveys stores by 2027.
The company announced it will open 225 stores nationwide in 2025, the most in its history, after launching 120 new locations in 2024.
Unlike traditional supermarkets, Aldi stores emphasize simplicity and low prices.
The stores don’t have bakeries, delis, pharmacies, or loyalty programs.
Shoppers pay a 25-cent deposit to use a cart (refunded upon return) and bag their own groceries using reusable bags or store-provided boxes.
Founded in Germany, Aldi operates in the U.S. under Aldi Süd, which also manages the recently acquired Winn-Dixie and Harveys conversions.
The company’s U.S. headquarters is based in Batavia, Illinois, with more than 2,300 stores nationwide and a strong focus on continued growth in Florida and beyond.
