IRS Rebate Scam Texts Are Going Out, So Beware!

The scammers are at it again, and this time they want you to believe they’re the IRS.

There are reportedly text messages going out that say they need to click a link in the text to receive a $14-hundred payment from the IRS. The scammers are playing off recent news; in late December the agency said it was sending $2.4-million in total to a million people who didn’t get all of their federal stimulus checks during the pandemic.

However, those payments are happening automatically, and the link in the text takes you to a fake site that looks like an official website.

The IRS is warning that the only way they contact anyone is through the postal service, and never through texts or emails.
