A zoo in Atlanta is getting two new pandas courtesy of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Xi made the announcement in Washington, DC on Thursday, during his state visit to the White House, and said the pandas Ping Ping and Fu Shuang should arrive at Zoo Atlanta in a few days.
The zoo announced back in August that it had reached an agreement with Chinese officials to receive the popular animals.
The so-called "panda diplomacy" between the U.S. and China began in 1972, when President Nixon visited China and First Lady Pat Nixon mentioned her love for pandas to China's premier, who then sent two pandas to the Washington Zoo.
