Oprah Winfrey & "A Wrinkle In Time" Cast Covers Time Magazine

Ava DuVernay sprinkles her #blackgirlmagic on the cover of the latest issue of Time magazine with Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling and Storm Reid front and center.

As a trailblazing director, Ava DuVernay agreed to direct the $100 million movie for Disney as long as she "wasn't casting for actresses," but "for leaders—icons" of a diverse cast.

Reese Witherspoon respects and understands the importance of having a diverse cast,

I’ve never seen somebody demand inclusiveness like that. It’s just a different perspective, and you don’t get that unless we start to have powerful filmmakers of different colors, different genders. You’re just gonna have the same 20 dudes making the same 20 movies over and over and over again.”

There are many stories to tell and in a variety of voices. Many are enamored by Duvernay's work ethic and how she calls the shots.

Oprah says,

I [look] at [DuVernay] in her jeans and sneakers and those dreads out there calling it. It's just the coolest damn thing to watch her with those big-ass machines. It just feels like, 'OK, next generation: There you are.'

The multi-million dollar film is based off of Madeleine L'Engle's 1962 novel where a high school aged girl, Meg Murry, is transported through time and space on an adventure of a lifetime to rescue her father from evil forces. Meg is accompanied by her younger brother, Charles Wallace and her friend Calvin O'Keefe.

"A Wrinkle In Time" is set to hit theaters March 9th 2018.
